Goldwater's Foods of Arizona was founded in 1989 by Joanne Goldwater, Peggy Goldwater Clay starting a food business and Carolyn Ross, the daughters starting a food business and granddaughter of former Senator Barry Goldwater. Prior to co-creating Goldwater's Foods, Peggy had her own line of specialty salad dressings under the label "Peggy Jane's Special Products". Peggy Jane's was sold to Knott's Berry Farm in 1986 allowing her to start a new food venture. Joanne Goldwater was also previously involved in the food business for 10 years with her own successful catering company in Scottsdale, Arizona. She was later joined by her daughter Carolyn Ross, who is now the President of Goldwater's Foods of Arizona. Goldwater's Foods originated the "Fruit Salsa" in 1989 with their innovative Paradise Pineapple Salsa. This award-winning salsa has been the inspiration for the other salsas in their line. Goldwater family recipes have been captured in traditional salsas including Sedona Red Salsa, rated in the top 4 in a comparison test run by "The New York Times" starting a food business and Rio Verde Tomatillo, a distinctive green salsa that combines fruity ripe tomatillos with fresh vegetables, chiles starting a food business and spices.
